High Quality, Nutritious, Healthy Dog Food – If You Want A Healthy Pet
A high quality, nutritious, healthy dog food is a major factor in the long term health of your pet.
You may be aware of this. Most food that we buy to feed our dogs is extremely low in nutritional value. If you are buying your dog’s food in a grocery store or a pet supermarket, you may be slowly killing your dog.
Think about human nutrition. If we feed ourselves unhealthy food over a period of years, our bodies will begin to deteriorate. We suffer from a higher incidence of degenerative diseases.
You can say the same thing about our dogs. A poor diet will result in a higher incidence of disease and a gradual deterioration of their bodies.
You hear more today about heart failure, kidney issues, cancer, and other degenerative illnesses in dogs. This wasn’t the case before commercial dog food.
I think you will agree with me. You and I want our pets to live long, healthy, and happy lives. They are so full of unconditional love. They are completely dependent on us to provide them with good nutrition. I owe that to him.
The picture of me and my dog, Romeo, is on a lot of the articles I write. He is 6 years old and just a mutt. He has been fed high quality, nutritious, healthy dog food ever since he was a little over one year old. I know I am biased, but he is the sweetest, healthiest, and happiest dog we have ever owned.
You possibly don’t believe me when I say that, “you may be slowly killing your dog.” I encourage you to read the article, “What’s Really in Pet Food” which has been prepared by the Animal Protection Institute. You will find some “eye opening” information in this article.
According to this article, much of the food we give our dogs is “unfit for human consumption.”
This includes both meat and grains. Is that what we want to feed our dogs – food that is unfit for human consumption?
Here’s something to keep in mind. You can’t rely on the ingredient label or the wording on the package to make your dog food selection. Just because the package describes the food as “high quality” or “premium,” doesn’t mean that it is a quality, nutritious, healthy dog food.
When you look at an ingredient label, it may appear that the bag contains a quality, nutritious, healthy dog food. But if the food is bought in a store, it could be 6-18 months old.
The owner or employee of the store may promise that the food is fresh. Most likely, the person is being dishonest or doesn’t know what they are talking about.
The older that bag of food, the more the nutritional value of the food deteriorates. Major causes of this deterioration include bacteria, heat, and mold.
Here is another consideration. Make sure that the food is cooked at low temperatures and for a short period of time. Cooking at a high temperature or for a long time will destroy the nutritional content of the food.
So here is what I recommend in finding a good dog food:
1. The food must be very fresh. It should be shipped directly to the customer’s door.
2. Make sure that the food is cooked at a low temperature and for a short period of time.
Chicken, chicken meal, fish, fish meal, lamb, and venison are good choices. They should come from high quality sources.
4. Meat should make up a very high percentage of the food. A food that includes by-products should be avoided.
3. Check out the cooking methods. The food should not be cooked at a high temperature or for a long period of time.
4. The dog food should contain no corn, no wheat, no dairy, no artificial colors, no artificial preservatives, no steroids, and no hormones.
Providing a high quality, nutritious, healthy dog food will help your pet live a long, healthy, and happy life. That’s what I want to do for my little fellow.
