Wireless Dog Fence – Electric Dog Fence
A wireless dog fence or electric dog fence is used to confine the dog without the use of a traditional fence. The wireless dog fence is buried around the perimeter of the property or other boundary for the dog as established by the dog owner.
The two parts of an electric dog fence system are the collar and the wireless fence. The collar is activated by be buried wireless fence and delivers a shock to the dog when the dog comes too close to the fence or crosses it.
One of the benefits of a wireless dog fence is for people who do not want a traditional fence around their yard. Many homeowners enjoy the aesthetics of an electric dog fence since it is completely concealed.
Maintenance is another benefit of a wireless fence over a traditional fence. Traditional fences need to be maintained by painting or weatherized stain or they can become dilapidated.
A wireless dog fence can keep the dog more secure than a traditional fence since many dogs will dig under a traditional fence to escape. If a dog escapes, it could come injured, stolen, or lost. Electric dog fences also eliminate the need for the dog owner to fill holes the dog may dig in attempts to escape.
Some traditional fencing may be prohibited by local zoning laws or rules set forth by any housing development association. Wireless dog fences are typically allowed since they are not a physical boundary to that interferes with the aesthetics of the property.
A lack of security from other animals or people is a disadvantage of a wireless dog fence. Homeowners who want a traditional fence for security reasons do not have that same security benefit from an electric dog fence.
It may take the dog owner a period of trial and error to determine which setting on the dog collar is appropriate for the dog. If the dog collar is set to deliver a low-level, mild shock, a dog may ignore the shock and escape from the property. If the shock is set too high it can hurt the dog and be considered abusive.
Unfortunately, if the dog escapes the property, the dog is likely to be shocked when it crosses over the wireless dog fence to return to the property. Being shocked when returning to the property can be confusing for the dog and inadvertently teach the dog that returning to the property is bad.
