Amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants can be found in natural dog food recipes of some commercial dog foods. Many dog food manufacturers advertise that they use natural ingredients such as lamb and vegetables. The dog owner may want to check the list of ingredients or information on the manufacturers websites when choosing a healthy commercial dog food.

Some dog owners still have concerns about the nutritional value of the commercial dog food. They may make their own dog food for their dogs. Some dog owners who make homemade dog food cook the dog food while others stick to a raw food diet for their dogs.

Dog owners who want to make homemade dog food can find natural dog food recipes on the Internet. Several natural dog food recipes suggest the use of fresh meats and vegetables. Some dog food recipes, especially for raw food diets, call for the use of ingredients that the dog owner would have to order.

Some of the recipes use foods that are commonly present in the home, such as canned or frozen vegetables. Some dog owners who feed their dogs raw food diets order certain ingredients like bone meal from specialized dog food companies.

One natural dog food recipe is called meat and rice dinner. The dog owner cooks one half pound of ground meat. The meat can be ground chicken, ground turkey, ground beef, or ground pork. The meat should be cooked thoroughly.

This natural food recipe includes one cup of vegetables. The dog owner can use one half cup of two vegetables if they prefer. Potatoes, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, and spinach are some examples of vegetables that many dogs like.

Three to four cups of rice are included in the recipe. The ingredients are boiled together until the meat is cooked through and the vegetables are tender. The dog owner may want to cook the ground meat first to make sure it is thoroughly cooked.
