Here Is What You Can Do To Stop Dog Chasing

As a dog owner, you may have to address many problems with your dog. Common problems include jumping on other people, digging, and also barking.

There is no best way to solve these issues except to prevent them before they even happen. In order to accomplish that, start training your dog when he is still a puppy. You want them to be obedient and exhibit the proper behavior with consistent reinforcement.

Another training issue that sometimes comes up is to stop dog chasing since it can be dangerous to the dog as well as the individuals involved. There are different methods to use to stop dog chasing and preventing this issue requires that the individual be consistent with whatever method he chooses to use.

Prevention

If you want to stop your dog from chasing a car, make sure that you do not allow your dog to be outside without a leash and supervision. No matter what, dogs should not be given permission to run freely outside. The reason is simple. When dogs are running outside, it is possible that they may cause danger to others as well as themselves, especially when they are near the road.

Perhaps you are living in a rural area and you think it will be alright to leave your dog outside since there won’t be so many cars around. Well, the answer is, even if you are living in a rural area, you should still train your dog to stay inside his territory. You will not want your dog to jump onto the road and meet with an accident. Another reason why you want to train your dog to stay inside the territory is because you don’t want your dog to start chasing other people who happen to come near its territory.

By allowing the dog to chase other people or creatures, it can result in harm for both the dogs and the ones being chased. In fact, this will also cultivate aggressive behavior in a dog, which is what you as a dog owner wants to avoid.

When the dog is chasing the owner, playing with him, the owner should not give the dog any reinforcement of that behavior. Even though playing chase can be fun, it creates aggressive behavior in the dog as well as the chasing behavior that the owner would not want to occur around visitors to the home.

The way to stop dog chasing is to refuse to run away from the dog when he tries to play in this manner. The individual should turn his back to the dog and refuse to give the dog attention when it exhibits this behavior. When the dog decides to calm down, then the individual should turn his attention to the dog and give it praise.

One other method you can use to reinforce a good behavior and stop a dog chasing is to tell the dog to sit if it starts to chase you. Only when the dog obeys and sits down will you start to give him your attention. Doing so will help to reinforce the positive behavior and avoid other negative behaviors.
