House Breaking For The New Dog Owner

Puppies are so cute; they can melt anyone’s heart. They are curious, fun, playful and cuddley and we tend to enjoy every part of having a new puppy until they go potty in an inappropriate spot and then we have to deal with the biggest problem and difficulty of owning a new puppy, puppy house training.

You will need to spend quality time with and have patience with your new puppy when it comes to housetraining. A puppy is only a baby and a puppy does not have the capacity yet to know what you want him to do. It will be an easier job to finish your puppy house training if you are patient and loving with your puppy. Even though it is frustrating when your puppy has an accident in the house if you are impatient and express anger your puppy housetraining will take more time.

A young puppy that is less than 15 weeks of age might need to go outside as often as 2-3 times per hour. A puppy that is frolicking hard will also need to go out more often because playing creates urine. Remember that your puppy is still not at the age where he can control himself so any mishaps at this point are not his fault but rather your fault for not taking him out to potty often enough.

The important thing to remember when you are potty training your puppy is to be consistent. Make sure and use a leash and take him to the same designated spot every outing. Use consistent commands such as “potty now” and repeat the commands as necessary. Consistency is what it crucial when completing puppy house training.

After your puppy finishes his elimination chore reward him with lavish praise and treats. Try to make the puppy house training practice as positive as as you can for your puppy. If you are impatient or mean to your puppy as he is learning puppy house training your efforts will take more time as he will become afraid and will not know what is demanded of him.

It is unlikely that you will be able to spend all of your time with your puppy so when you need to be away from your puppy you should use a crate. Puppies and dogs are natural den animals and they crave a small place of their own. Also, puppies will rarely dirty their own space so a crate will help to teach your puppy how to control himself.

The most important aspects of puppy house training are to be consistent and positive. Make sure that you take your puppy outside often, especially at the beginning. Always use just one place for his elimination spot and use consistent commands. Lavish him with praise for a job well done and make sure that the experience is not a scary one for him.

Puppy house training is the most important aspect of owning a new puppy and you can train your puppy in just a few short weeks if you are consistent and positive about the process. You will then be able to enjoy your puppy more as he gets bigger and you will never have to worry about accidents in the house again.
