Does Your Dog’s Diet Need to Include Supplements?

A healthy, balanced diet is essential for a long and happy life with your pet. How do you know if your dog’s diet needs supplements? What types of supplements should you add to your dog’s meal?

Generally, your dog food will not likely need to be supplemented. Suppose you feed the dog food which developed by a well known company, your dog’s foods are specially designed for a well balance to ensure excellent health for your pet.

From time to time, several low-quality dog food will increase the requirement for extra supplementing. Your veterinarian may advise you allow your dog’s eating habits a little boost. Consider supplementing your your dog food with hard boiled egg a couple of days each week. This will add additional levels of nutritional vitamins A & D to your dog food. Such vitamin supplements help maintain great bone structure and eye.

If you want your dog food specially made from a raw food diet, cooking at home for your dog, or just want to make sure your dog food is the best, you will want to know about the benefits of other supplements. Your dog’s diet can be supplemented with whole grains, green vegetables, yeast, liver and nuts. These items will increase your dog’s intake of vitamin B.

Vitamin K can be another fundamental nutrient in your dog food. Liver, fish, leafy greens, and seeds can provide vitamin K to your dog’s diet. Glucosamine is the top supplement in your dog food. Glucosamine will help improve joint health and ward off arthritis in dogs.

Supplementing your dog food can be harmful if done wrong. You might think you are providing your dog excellent vitamins and low calories by mixing your dog food a few grapes or raisins. Some dogs have been known to die from renal failure due to consuming such fruit. Always seek advice from a professional before supplementing.

Calcium can be dangerous when used excessively in your dog food. Although calcium is good in moderation to form strong, healthy bones, too much calcium can create problems. Dog given too much calcium may grow large bones, but these bones lack the strength.
