The Big and Strong Boxer and Its Gentle Heart

The Boxer is a no-fuss, ready-to-roll-anytime kind of dog so if you’re wanting a companion that’s just like this then you two are a perfect match. This big and strong dog is extraordinarily energetic, loyal, intelligent, eager to learn, and agile. With its boisterous disposition, you’ll be surprised to know they are very low maintenance.

Being like a military man, Boxers exude that dignified stance and always-on-the-go disposition. From playtime to serious work, these dogs are simply dependable. Tracing their history, their breed dates back as companions of soldiers during the ancient wars and noblemen during hunting games. Looking at them today, we can understand why they act this certain way.

The Boxer came from the massive breed of the Molossian Hound of ancient Greece. The Greeks had them for guarding, fighting, and herding and together with the soldiers during battles, has spread out across Rome, Europe, and Britain. In the year 1800′s, the breed settled in to Germany and conceived other breeds including the modern day Boxers which were firstly called Brabanters.

Brabanters were favored military and police dogs and used to be housed in castles and manors. But with the fading of battles and hunting games, the Brabanters were transferred in to a lesser privileged life like the butcher shops and theatres. From military and noble works, this breed ventured in to cattle herding and acting while maintaining that dignified stance.

According to some, the name Boxer came from the breeds boxing-like hand gesture or its box-like head. But whats certain, however, is the fact that it is the Germans who established and improved this breed. In 1895, the Germans founded the very first Boxer club in Munich, Germany and in 1903, the breed came to the US and became popular in the 1940s.

Boxers are quoted to be the ultimate people dog. They are friendly but wary with strangers, fearless if the need to fight arises, and playful and highly energetic. They can also be stubborn and boisterous and so it is important to train them for obedience.

The Boxers big, strong, and confident posture shouldnt intimidate you. Even with its battle and hunting game history, it is important to keep in mind that this breed has a strong affection and patience towards human beings especially the young ones. Its stoic disposition is so surprisingly tolerant it can even stand poking, persistence, and unending playing and chasing of children.

With this animal for a pet, you will surely experience quick maintenance. You don’t need to pamper them like other fashionable pets for they clean easily with wiping. So if you’re needing for a companion that’s sociable, a fast learner, and is easily pleased then the Boxer is the perfect breed for you.
