Useful Yorkshire Terrier Training Tips

If you have just bought or are considering buying a Yorkshire Terrier you will be keen to get it potty trained. These are lovable dogs that are very faithful, but they can be a little tricky to train if you don’t have the right information. If you would like to know how to get your dog potty trained quickly here are some important Yorkshire Terrier training tips that you can use.

One of the most important factors of training a Yorkie is to make sure that only you train him or her. This will give your dog a better focus and avoid anything that would put them off. So make sure that it is only you and your dog during training sessions.

To start the training place potty pads in one or two places in the house. These are the places that you will be encouraging your dog to go to the toilet. Only use one or two places to avoid any confusion and your dog will react well to this.

You must now start to encourage your dog to use the pads when he or she needs to go to the toilet. Use a firm assertive and say NO if they are going to the toilet on the floor. Move them to the pad and encourage them to use it.

Every time your dog successfully uses a pad you must give them a treat. In no time your dog will associate going to the toilet where you want them to with being rewarded. Doing this will further encourage your dog to become toilet trained.

When your dog is trained to use a pad it is time to move their training to outside. So position the pad near the door for a few days and gradually move it outside. Over a few days to a couple of weeks your dog will learn to go outside to the toilet.

During the training you should be loving and caring towards your dog. This makes them comfortable and more receptive to learning. If your dog has an accident don’t shout as this can scare them and ruin all your hard work.

Now that you have the Yorkshire terrier training tips that you need to know you can make a start. Be prepared for a few accidents and give your dog praise and attention. In no time at all your terrier will be potty trained and you will be happy.
