Dog Strollers Are Created For Strength And Comfort

Dog strollers are much more commonly used today to take your 10 pound pup to 100 plus canine out on the town. These strollers resemble those used by parents of human children. However, more people are opting to add a canine member to their family, or fill the void left when a grown child leaves home. As this trend grows, so do the options available for pets and people to enjoy more time together.

There are many reasons why you would want to place your dog in a stroller rather than walking beside you on or off-leash. If you are an avid runner with a new puppy, a stroller would allow your pup to walk with you during warm-ups and cool-downs, and then ride along while you run at top speed. Their bones and joints are still growing and should not be run for extended periods on hard surfaces until they are older. The same goes for older or arthritic dogs. Your senior canine may still want to join you, but cannot keep up or go for as long of a distance anymore. A dog stroller, pet buggy, pup carrier, or canine cart would be just the answer for both you and your dog.

It is entirely possible to purchase a pet stroller without spending a fortune. Prices vary with the lower end being very simple models. Mid-range buggies have a variety of desirable features, or if you prefer all the bells and whistles for your pampered pup, expect to spend quite a bit more. There are a multitude of dog strollers on the market. They can be purchased locally at your pet shop or big box retailer where you can try them out. Or, you can shop for every model and option out there on the internet. A popular auction site lists nearly 900 available dog strollers.

Pet transports come in many sizes and with a variety of options, both necessary and nice. The most important factors to consider are size of your dog and where and when you will use the stroller. Sizes are based on the weight of your dog and can run from 15 pounds up to 150 pounds. If you will be running on uneven surfaces or rugged outdoor terrain, opt for models that are designed to take this type of beating. Choose from built-in shock absorbers and airless tires for comfort and durability. If your dog is prone to jumping out or gets anxious when approached by other dogs, you may want to use one that is fully enclosed with durable mesh webbing to withstand chewing or pawing. Consider paying more for waterproof or wind resistant fabrics if you plan to use in all weather conditions. Also, several strollers have multiple uses and can be converted to a basic hand carrier, car seat, or travel crate.

Once you have decided on the basics, you can further narrow your choice by adding features. Pet buggies come in various colors from pink to jungle camouflage. Choose a color to go with your personal fashion style, or one that suits the personality of your dog. Whatever color, make sure to look for added safety features such as reflective weave, piping, or lighted areas to stay visible. Also, consider whether you will need a cargo area to place your personal items, extra treats, or water bowls, as well as cup holders for you to enjoy a beverage during your jaunt.

After selecting the appropriate dog stroller, you will need to get your pup to use it. In theory your canine should enjoy being taken for a ride in a stroller, but in reality not all dogs appreciate the benefits the first time out. To get Fido or Fluffy comfortable, you will want to start with short walks. You may also have to lure him with his favorite treats. Be sure once in the stroller you give praise and reward him, either with more treats or a favorite toy. Make this a positive and fun experience from the start and he will be hopping in as soon as he sees the joy buggy brought to the door.

Finally, just because you have a dog stroller does not mean you no longer have to take your pup out for a walk. You will be getting exercise while strolling, but remember your dog will only be benefiting from the fresh air, a nice view and being with you. The stroller allows you to stay out together longer, or to give your older or ailing pup a chance to see more than just the back yard or the local fire hydrant. You still need to make sure your pooch gets enough regular exercise to keep him or her healthy.

Pet strollers are easy and convenient for pets who get tired of being held but love to go with you. Dog strollers come in all dimensions and sizes for dogs from Great Danes to Chihuahuas.
