There are many probable rewards and benefits to owning a dog, however, without suitable training a dog can actually raise your stress level rather than decrease it. When your dog jumps all over an important caller to your house, or he barks and barks for no cause, or he chews up your favorite shoes, it can be very nerve-racking. That is one reason why it is so crucial to start training your new puppy without delay and to at all times be consistent.

Training your dog with positive reinforcement will speed up the training process and it will make it simpler and much more pleasant. Your puppy only wants to delight you and if you give him positive reinforcement, he will carry on to do what you want and he will do whatsoever you ask of him. He will be happy to make you happy and you will be happy when your training just gets easier and easier.

For you to keep your puppy’s attention you can do things that he enjoys but you must also reward him for little successes. Do not proffer a food reward every time, however, because irregular reinforcement is actually much more efficient than constant reinforcement because he never realizes when he will get the treat so he will keep doing the behavior on the hope that he will get the food reward. Also too many food treats can be bad for your dog’s health and weight. However, love and attention should be always given.

If you are in the process of house training your puppy and he has an mistake in the house you should not yell or beat him, particularly if you do not catch him in the deed. If you scold him afterward, it will serve to confuse him because he won’t know why you are upset. The best response is to entirely ignore him and do not let him see any reaction at all. Just clean it up and do what you can to do away with the odor as much as possible. Your dog considers your lack of attention punishment enough because that it makes him happy to make you happy.

While you are house training your puppy you need to shower him with love and attention when he does it correctly. Make a huge deal about it and reward and praise him lavishly. Soon he will always go where he is meant to because it pleases you so much.

Dog training will take time so you will need fortitude and resolve to follow through but the rewards will be well worth it for you and your family and your dog.

Once you initially start training you can use visual cues, treats and rewards and other tools, but in due course your dog should be able to respond as you desire with just the sound of your voice. Be consistent with all of your voice commands so that your dog is never mystified about what you want.
