Puppy Training Tricks For House Breaking

It is usually an exciting and fun time when you buy a new puppy. Puppies melt your heart with their cute little antics and their adorable faces but as every new puppy owner soon finds out there is one difficult aspect that they all must deal with and that is puppy potty training.

One of the most important thing to remember and to take into consideration is that your puppy is still very young. He does not yet have the ability to control his potty habits or to know what you are wanting him to do when you tell him to go potty. You will need to have patience and work with him closely for a few weeks before he has the capability to alert you when it is time to go out and to manage his bladder and other functions.

At Twelve weeks of age a puppy may need to go out to potty as rfrequently as every 15-20 minutes and even more if he is actively playing. A quietly resting or sleeping puppy will not have to go out quite as often so during the nighttime you can give him more time usually if he is sleeping. Don’t wake a sleeping puppy just make sure to take him out to potty as soon as he awakens.

Consistency is the most important aspect of puppy house training. Stay consistent in taking him out on his leash to the same spot every time. Stay consistent about issuing the same commands such as “potty now” every time. And be consistent with your lavish praise and special treats when he does finally go.

When you are house training your puppy you will need to make sure that the experience is as positive as possible for your puppy. If he ever has any fear of your reactions or if he ever feels fear that he is doing something wrong your potty training efforts will take more time. Your own puppy wants to please you and if he does not know how to do that it will take more time for him to learn about potty training.

Having a crate will help you in your house training when you need to be away from your puppy. Dogs naturally try to keep their own space clean so a crate will help your puppy to learn to control himself. Puppies are also natural den animals so they enjoy having a small space that belongs to them.

One of the most crucial aspects of puppy potty training are to be consistent and positive. Make sure that you take your puppy outside often, especially at the beginning. Always use just one place for his elimination spot and use consistent commands. Give him lots of praise for a job well done and make sure that the experience is not a scary one for him.

It should take just a few short weeks to finish your puppy house training. Performing it right will serve you for the entire time that you own your dog so be consistent and positive and you’ll be able to enjoy many happy years with your brand new puppy.
