Dog Harnesses VS Dog Collars?
There seems to be some debate of which dog item works best. Is a dog harness or a dog collar better? Which dog training and walking tool works best? They both have benefits, but which one is the superior one?
The answer is not an easy one. There are several factors involved when comparing the two items. A dog harness and collar are similar in a lot of ways, but they are also very different from one another.
Dog collars are best to hang identification tags. They also are the best for teaching your dog commands. They are very helpful for training.
While dog collars can be used successfully when teaching your dog to walk on a leash, a harness is the less of a risk. Dogs are often fitted with choke collars by owners, which are then often used incorrectly and cause a lot of damage to their throats. If you choose to use a dog collar be sure to use a sturdy nylon collar that is the right size.
Harnesses allow your pull to be spread evenly across their torso without any fear of damaging your dog’s neck. No-pull harnesses are made of soft nylon with a ring in front of the dog’s chest, instead of the top of its back. If your dog is hyper-active or hard to control, place him or her in a no-pull harness.
Dog collars are a lot less complicated and easier to put on. Many of the dog harnesses have so many straps and clicks that they can be quite overwhelming when trying to put them on dogs. If you are turned off by all the snaps and straps, but would like to use a harness try investing in a step-in dog harness that your dog simply steps in to.
Dog harnesses work well for doubling as a seat belt for your dog. They can be connected to your car’s seat belt during your drives. If you travel a lot, a harness can be a good investment to keep your dog from moving or jumping around in your car.
Both dog collars and dog harnesses can irritate your dog if he has sensitive skin. It is important to find a soft dog harness or collar. Also be sure that you fit them with the right size collar so they fit correctly.
