Crate Training Your Dog Or Puppy

If you have a new puppy in your home, chances are you’ll want to train him. To begin an effective training program for your puppy you should start with the rate training program.

When the puppy is properly trained, it can become the most important member of the family. A puppy that is trained when young can grasp the training more effectively. Puppies always want to be trained on how they should act in a given situation.

Choose a crate the puppy cannot easily escape from during training procedures. One that has a gate that latches would be ideal. You could also use a large cage constructed of wire. You want to make sure the dog can move around comfortably without being too distracted from training activities.

The next step is that one should be able to find the perfect home for the dog. The crate that is most comfortable for the dog will be its perfect home. Then puppies will understand that is the home for them, but it is not advisable to keep the puppy locked up if it is under 8 weeks of age.

You can get your dog used to this place that will become his nest by putting a bone or treat in there and inviting him to go in and out at will. There’ll be no lock at first, and the dog will begin to stay in for longer times willingly.

At some point when he is comfortable being in the crate you will close the gate while he’s inside. Do it for small amounts of time at first and gradually increase them. You can do this several times a day to get him used to it.

Always praise your puppy for going in the crate and being in it as a good thing. He will soon come to view the crate as his private area.

Make sure you make the crate a haven and not a prison or a place for punishment. Two hours is a good amount of time to hold him there. Don’t open the door just because the dog is crying. Instead, wait till he’s not crying. Don’t give him praise for leaving. Just make it a natural thing to do when he’s quiet and you’ll have a good start to your training. This is a good thing you do for your pet.
